Every 26th of April for the past 23 years, we have been celebrating World Intellectual Property Day to mark the significance of intellectual property as an engine of human progress.
The intellectual property system was established with one main objective – to recognize and reward inventors and creators for their work and to ensure that society can benefit fully from this creativity and inventiveness. This encourages inventors and creators to invest their time, energy, and creativity in developing new technologies and new forms of creative expression that improve our lives.
This year’s motto for the events organized by WIPO is “Women and Intellectual Property: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity”, which honors women as inventors, creators, and entrepreneurs. The theme addresses the issue of the untapped talent pool of women inventors and the barriers they may face in accessing knowledge, skills, and resources to develop themselves and their work. Encouraging and helping women inventors to take advantage of intellectual property services will help accelerate innovation, creativity, and business growth, which in turn will help the economy to recover and further develop.
