2022 was a very successful year for the EU Intellectual Property Office’s (EUIPO) Ideas Powered SME Fund, with a total of 22,479 applications from 21,967 SMEs from 27 EU member states, which is almost double the number of applications received in the previous year 2021. Most of the SMEs applied for trademark and design grants (21 504). The highest number of applications came from Spain (3 622), followed by Poland (2 764), Italy (2 429), France (1 855), and Germany (1 780).
Requests for grants for the registration of trademarks, designs, and patents were mostly from companies operating in the services sector, followed by those in the wholesale and retail trade and manufacturing sectors. The Fund is open to all micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises established in the European Union. The initiative has been running since January 2021 and a total of 33 385 applications have been granted so far. The fund will support SMEs until the end of 2024, and the applications in 2023 will open from 23.01.2023 and will run until 15.12.2023.
