In early 2021, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) launched the Ideas Powered SME Fund, through which it has been able to support nearly 72,000 micro, small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to register their industrial property objects (trademarks, designs, patents, plant varieties) by the end of 2024, fostering a thriving environment for business development and creativity. In the period 2021-2014, the Fund’s objective was to help businesses cope with the Covid consequences by financing the registration of intellectual property. The Fund has become a multi-year initiative, the fundamental objective of which is now to provide support to small and medium-sized businesses in their growth and to help promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the European Union.
In 2024, 31,779 applications were received, of which:
– 29,097 applications for a trademark or design voucher;
– 2,037 for IP Scan or IP Scan Enforcement services;
– 1,728 applications for a patent voucher;
– 148 applications for a plant variety voucher.
The success of the initiative is due to the proactive cooperation between the European Union Intellectual Property Office, national offices from the EU Member States, the Commission, as well as intellectual property professionals and consumer organizations.
