On September 11 and 12, 2019, at Park Hotel Vitosha, a sub-regional seminar was held on the services of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for export-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises. Our team attended the seminar, at which the following topics were presented and discussed: Relationship between intellectual property and export-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises; Features of the Madrid trademark registration system; Filing of an International Patent Application (Patent Cooperation Treaty – PCT) with the Patent Office; Madrid and The Hague systems – best application and enforcement strategies; Domain and trademark conflicts on the Internet; WIPO services for SMEs; WIPO global databases – platforms and tools; Strategies for using intellectual property systems in a competitive business environment; Services to support export-oriented small and medium-sized businesses in Bulgaria. During the seminar addressed a number of case studies were presented and court decisions commented, as well as two panel discussions were held where the challenges of export-oriented small and medium-sized businesses and expectations of support were discussed.
