Krasimira Kadieva attended a two-day regional seminar on “Protection of Geographical Indications: Lisbon system and other legal means of protection” organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Patent Office of Republic of Bulgaria (BPO), which was held on November 24th and 25th 2016 in Vitosha Hotel. The seminar was attended by business representatives as well as fellow industrial property representatives. The following topics were discussed during the event: “Geographical indications (GIs) and designations of origin: Review of the Lisbon system for the international protection of appellations of origin and geographical indications.”; “Systems for the protection and enforcement of GIs in the European Union.”; “Other options for the protection of distinctive signs of origin for products with specific qualities: the use of the system for the protection of trademarks and other legal means.”; “The protection of GIs – the Bulgarian experience.”; “The establishment and the role of producer associations and an efficient certification system.”; “The activity of WIPO for the development of intellectual property in countries in transition.”; “Protection and Use of GIs – the experience of individual countries.”; “Using of GIs, trademarks and other distinctive signs as a tool to promote local and traditional products with specific qualities.”, etc. The event aims to provide information on the protection of geographical indications and options for protecting products with specific qualities.
