Common practice regarding the graphical representation of designs

National industrial property offices in the European Union and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) agreed on a common practice for designs in order to give guidance on visual indications for “Disclaim”, the types of views and ways in which designs to be presented on a neutral background. The common practice is applied by the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria from July 14, 2016. The common practice, that contains recommendations to applicants about the right way for representing of their designs is a result of joint work on the project “Harmonization of practices on the graphical presentation of designs”. The document is intended to be used by experts of industrial property offices, industrial property representatives and applicants in order to increase the predictability and legal certainty.
