In January 2019 we were contacted by a client with whom we have worked on several projects in the past year and this time the client entrusted us with the registration of a national trademark before the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria. The mark that the client provided us with is a combined trademark that contains word and figurative elements. The goods for which the mark shall be filed for registration fall in Class 11 of the Nice Classification and the services in Classes 35 and 37 of the Classification. We provided the client with an e-book containing numerous articles in the field of trademarks and then proceeded with the obligatory preliminary search in order to determine whether the mark was registrable or in other words, whether it would pass the examination on absolute grounds for refusal and whether there are prior earlier rights. After conducting the search, we prepared a written opinion. After finding that no risks were identified, we proceeded with the application of the mark for registration at the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria and paid the state fee. The application successfully passed the substantive examination and was published in the Bulletin of the Patent Office and no oppositions or objections were filed within the three-month period. The next step in the registration procedure was to pay the second installment of the state fee, after which the decision on registration of the mark was taken and a registration certificate was issued, which we provided to the client, with which we successfully completed this project.
