At the end of January 2024, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) made available a website audit tool that allows websites to be analysed for compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The tool is а free open source software and is available for download here.
It has been developed by a group of experts at the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and was created following the EDPB Strategy 2021-2023. Its accessibility makes it easy to use and greatly facilitates the work of technical auditors of national data protection authorities (DPAs). Also, the website audit tool can be used both by law firms carrying out GDPR compliance checks on their clients and by controllers and processors wishing to test their own websites.
The new tool allows the preparation, execution and evaluation of audits directly in the tool by simply pasting the URL of the relevant website. The tool is also compatible with other tools, such as the Website Evidence Collector on the EDPS website, and allows auditors to import and evaluate the results of audits carried out with these tools and also allows the generation of reports.
