Our team will attend the Fourth edition of the International IP Mediation Conference

The Boards of Appeal of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in cooperation with the EUIPO’s Academy, will host the fourth edition of the international IP Mediation Conference, which will take place at the EUIPO’s headquarters in Alicante, Spain, as well as online, on 19 and 20 October 2023.

Our team will also participate in the forum and, together stakeholders committed to mediation and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms in the field of intellectual property and will have the opportunity to learn about several key aspects of mediation, namely:

Overview of the current legislation: In this session, we will answer the questions of whether the current legislation (EU Directive and Singapore Convention) offers a complete set of tools ready to be used by small, medium, and large enterprises, as well as what is the current and potential role of the EU as a global IP mediation hub and how this could benefit businesses on the international stage.

Mediation as a way to reach a mutually beneficial agreement: In this session, we learn what mediation offers to IP lawyers and businesses and will explore practical experiences, skills, and techniques that will help us understand how IP lawyers and professionals can benefit and contribute to taking negotiations to the ‘next level’.

Practical knowledge of mediation: In this session, we will gain insight into the practice of mediation in the IP field and hear different perspectives on the experiences of professionals involved in mediation. Best practices for avoiding common or unforeseen pitfalls will be discussed, as well as options for overcoming ethical dilemmas and cultural considerations.

Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Alternative Dispute Resolution: In this session, we will explore cutting-edge technologies designed to support parties in resolving their disputes.

The conference will be held in English, but French, German, Italian, and Spanish interpreters will be on hand to provide immediate translations.
