Facebook will restrict targeting based on sensitive data

Recently, Facebook Inc. announced future changes to how users will be targeted. The changes envisaged will affect this targeting, which is based on sensitive personal data. This means that the social media platform will not allow users to be targeted, based on sensitive personal data such as race, health, religious or political beliefs, sexual orientation, and others.

The changes come as a result of harsh criticism in 2019 – criticism that was aimed at the way the company targets its users. The changes come into force on 19.01.2022. Until then, the current targeting capabilities remain in place.
