The first part of the revised European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) Guidelines for Examination of EU Trade Marks and Registered Community Designs has been adopted and will enter into force on February 1, 2017.

This revised version of the Guidelines has been fully updated with case law from the Court of Justice of the European Union and from the EUIPO’s Board of Appeal, which increases consistency of trademark and design practice as well as legal predictability for users. Therefore the Guidelines will be used by the users of the European Union trademark and design systems as the main point of reference.

The Guidelines can be accessed at https://euipo.europa.eu/tunnel-web/secure/webdav/guest/document_library/contentPdfs/law_and_practice/decisions_president/ex16-7_en.pdf
