Brazil has joined the Protocol Relating to Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks

The largest Latin American and Caribbean economy – Brazil became part of the international trademark registration system administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) through its accession to the Protocol Relating to Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks. The Protocol will enter into force for Brazil on 2 October 2019. Thus, with Brazil’s accession to the Protocol, the Madrid system already covers 121 countries. Through the Madrid system, trademark owners have the possibility to file an application for international trademark registration in several Member States of the Madrid system. This simplifies the process of trademark registration and its subsequent management by saving time and resources.
